This is from a January 26, 2026 U.S. House Oversight Hearing focused on health care consolidation, insurance company ownership of Medical Providers.
These were CEOs of major U.S. health insurance and health care companies, including:
Elevance Health (Anthem)
CVS Health (Aetna / Caremark)
UnitedHealth Group (Optum)
Cigna / Express Scripts
Jason Smith (R-MO), House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, asked:
Which of you companies own or control a Health Insurance Division, raise your hands? They all raised their hands.
Please keep your hands up, if you help or employ health care providers or own clinics, specialty pharmacies or any other kind of medical practice or pharmacy? They all raised their hands.
Please keep your hands up if you also own or control a pharmacy benefit manager? Once again, they all raised their hands.
Please keep your hand up if you lead a Publicly Traded Company at which you have a Legal responsibility to maximize shareholder value. Once again, they all raised their hands.
Jason Smith (R-MO):
“So we’ve established for the record that the Largest Health Insurance Companies are NOT just Insurers.”
“They are also Medical Providers and Pharmacies Diagnosing and deciding Treatment for patients.”
“They are also PBM’s – another form of Middlemen managing Drug Benefits.”
“They’re increasingly Controlling every aspect of our Healthcare System.”
This oversight hearing was examining vertical integration in the health care system, specifically:
Health insurance companies buying or controlling:
clinics
physician groups
specialty pharmacies
medical service providers
The main concern being investigated was:
Whether large insurers are gaining too much control over both insurance and the delivery of medical care, potentially reducing competition and increasing costs for patients.
So, what does this all mean?
Well, our top Healthcare Insurance Companies not only Insure Patients, but they Employ Doctors (own the Medical Clinics), they OWN Clinics, the OWN & Run Pharmacies and they Manage Drug Benefits (PBM’S).
It’s one big happy family sleeping in the same bed.
This very same thing is happening with the Cattle / Beef Industry.
It is one big Corporate takeover.
Why is this BAD?
Well, first of all it is a MAJOR CONFLICT of INTEREST.
It Reduces Competition.
It allows them to Control / Fix / Raise Prices.
It a total Win for them.
It’s a total Loss for the people.
This 100% proves the Vertical Integration of Healthcare.
This literally puts the Health Insurers, Medical Clinics (Doctors), Pharmacies AND Big Pharma ALL in Bed with each other.
